How to Measure for Lehenga Choli
Bridal lehengas and festival cholis demand exact proportioning. Follow our tailoring checklist to measure your choli and lehenga skirt accurately for a royal silhouette.
Section 1: The Choli (Blouse)
1. Bust Circumference
Horizontally around the fullest part of bust wearing your event bra. Keep tape level across the back.
2. Below Bust / Underbust
Around ribcage right beneath bust tissue.
3. Choli Length
From top of shoulder vertically down to desired crop line (typically 13.5" to 15.5", leaving 1–3 inches of midriff above the lehenga waist).
4. Shoulder Width & Armhole
Across outer shoulder bones at the back and circumference around the arm socket.
5. Sleeve Length & Round
Sleeveless, cap (4"), elbow (11"), or full sleeve (21") and circumference around arm.
6. Neckline Depths
Front drop (Sweetheart, Scoop, V-neck: 6.5"-8") and Back drop (Deep cut: 8"-12").
Section 2: The Lehenga (Skirt)
1. Lehenga Waist (Tie Point)
Measure around the circumference where you plan to tie your lehenga dori/drawstring. Whether you prefer high-waist, at the navel, or low-waist below the navel, measure at that exact level without pulling the tape too tight.
2. Hip Circumference
Measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks (typically 8" below the waistline). This ensures the flared panels (Kalis) fall gracefully without pulling at the hips.
3. Lehenga Length (With Footwear!)
Most critical measurement: Measure from the waist tie point straight down to the floor. Always wear the heels or shoes you plan to wear with the lehenga while taking this measurement.
Pro Tip for Can-Can Skirts:
Heavy bridal lehengas with multi-layered can-can nets lift the skirt slightly by about 0.5 inches due to the flare volume. Our master pattern makers automatically compensate for flare volume.
